Opportunity is a bridge built on the knowledge, the resources, and the power to make a change.
Through empowerment and advocacy, Jubilee neighbors work together toward better jobs, safe and quality housing, and a more vibrant community.
Jubilee’s case management, financial literacy, and resource referrals help neighbors build their self-sufficiency in a tailored way. Family Empowerment and Resident Leadership programs help cultivate a pipeline of neighborhood and family leaders. Jubilee’s Community Outreach Task Force and Government Affairs Committee members work with the community, partner agencies, the City of Dallas and business leaders to encourage sustainable, community-driven growth in Southeast Dallas.
In 2016-2018, Jubilee worked with Southern Methodist University, the University of Texas at Dallas, and the University of Texas at Arlington to complete a range of community listening sessions, visioning workshops, and needs assessments to gauge the areas of greatest strength and opportunity within the community. Some of the key findings in the first phase included the need for a grocery store, pharmacy and a bank. While neighbors felt their neighborhood had become safer and their children’s educational opportunities had improved, the top concerns among neighbors were health, housing, and jobs.
